2019 - Talismans

We all have talismans. They are the things that provide us strength, grounding and luck. Rocks are Dabney’s talismans. In 2017 she survived a life-threatening brain hemorrhage, a stroke. Friends and family prayed in their different ways for her survival; with sticks and feathers and rocks and plants and mountains. These paintings are a departure from her previous work. They are detailed paintings of her talismans. They remind her of the long trajectory of this earth. We are visitors here. Our time here is short and precious and can be so beautiful if we can appreciate the smallest of things.
